ABOUT THE COMPETITION
"Dal Derby" provides a high-quality independent forum for talented young people interested in musical theatre, where they can showcase their singing talent in front of the general public and a recognized professional jury.
The purpose of the competition is to conduct a national stage singing competition based on knowledge beyond the requirements of the National Core Curriculum and the graduation exam, in order to discover talented students.
The organizer of the competition is
Budapest Musical School.
STRUCTURE OF THE COMPETITION
The competition has two rounds.
The contestants must prepare with a total of three songs for the whole competition.
FIRST ROUND
Online round.
Application conditions:

registration at the online interface,

uploading a video to the online interface (which contains one of the three songs)

signed consent form uploaded to the online interface

transfer of the entry fee.

SECOND ROUND (FINAL)
In front of audience and professional jury
For the final, participants prepare with their remaining two songs, from which the jury will select one.
Requirements for participation: submission of the backing track, payment of the entry fee.
Entry fee upon qualification:
Solo: 9,000 HUF
Duet: 16,000 HUF
Group: 24,000 HUF
The final round entry fee is to be transferred to the bank account number mentioned above.
Final date and venue:
13th June 2026
Lóvasút Cultural and Event Centre (1121 Budapest, Zugligeti út 64.)
PRIZES
The jury will award first, second, and third place prizes among the competitors, along with sponsor awards.
Every finalist will receive a certificate of participation.
First, second, and third place winners and special prize recipients will receive a medal and a diploma.
Additional sponsor prizes including physical gifts, educational opportunities and performance opportunities will also be awarded.
The grand prize of the 2024 competition was a professional music video production.

THE JURY

MÁTYÁS VÁRKONYI
Ferenc Erkel - prize-winning composer, lyricist, conductor. The founder and leader of the bands ZéGé and Generál, the creator and founder-director of the legendary Rock Theater, he is part of many great moments in Hungarian rock history.
His musical pieces are constantly put on programs of Hungarian and foreign theatres. The number of performances registered in the Theater Database: composer-24, conductor-11, composer and conductor-5.

BEA BERECZ
Bea has been teaching in music schools since 1995.
In 1999, she graduated from the vocal department of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.
She participated as a singer in the Szekeres Madrigal Choir, the Operetta World Company and the National Philharmonic Choir. She has been singing in the band Apostol since 1998.
She worked with the Maladype Company, the Bárka Theatre and the Kolibri Theatre.
She is currently an employee of the Pintér Company and a vocal choach at Katona József Theatre and Örkény Theatre.
Since 2016, she has been a vocal and voice training teacher at the University of Theatre and Film.

KOCSIS DÉNES
A leading musical actor at the Budapest Operetta Theatre with over 15 years on stage, having portrayed iconic roles such as Roméo, Mozart, Dorian Gray, István, a király, Chris in Miss Saigon, and Archduke Rudolf. His work has been recognised with numerous awards, including the Honthy Award in 2019 and the Musical Actor of the Season award in 2018. Dénes began his musical studies as a child and was already appearing in films at the age of 13. He knows every aspect of the musical genre inside out, and approaches beginner performers with empathy and understanding, having started his own career at a young age.

KLAUDIA PÁNCZÉL
Opera singer and actress. Music has been an important part of her life since her childhood. She graduated from the University of Szeged with an excellent degree in classical singing, and won the podium of several international singing competitions. She regularly performs at opera and operetta performances.
As a mentor of Budapest Musical School's talent management program, she is experienced in talent management. She is passionate about familiarizing children with the genres of musical theatre and acts regularly in opera performances staged for young viewers.

FINTA GÁBOR
Dancer, choreographer, dandce teacher.
He earned his dancer degreee at Codarts, in Rotterdam, Holland, and his dance teacher masters degree at the Hungarian Dance University
He was character dancer of the Royal Ballet of Vallonia (Charleroi Danse) and Szeged Contemporary Dance Co.
At present the audience can see him dance at the Bregenzer Festspiele in Austria.
He is the artistic director and dance mentor of Budapest Musical School.
